Are your weeds growing like, well, weeds?

Seems to me that things are growing exceptionally fast so far this season. Is it just me?

Weeds don't seem that bad for us. Although the grass has a growth spurt, where I need to mow more than once a week and then it slows down to where I can mow every other week.....back and forth.

Also of concern to this topic:

Currently blooming AND going to seed: Canada thistle.

Nasty business. Look out for it where you live!

The white flowers in this image are those of Queen Anne's lace. Follow the stem down and you'll see the ferny foliage of the same. :D

Ahhhhh, Now I understand what you were referring to !

We have been SO blessed this year the weeds have not been an issue (we do have our garden sprayed - obviously it has been effective) I have this one little thing that grows, (need to take a pic and post it) I do believe that it is a weed.

On a side note, I was chatting with my MIL who had previously told me the name of the Popcorn plant was popcorn plant LOL. I told her that we were unable to locate it etc., when she chuckled heartidly, advising that she believed it was actually called 'English Bells' ! She liked to call it the popcorn plant because when in bloom, it looked like popcorn above the stems

I have always called them wild carrots for the long white root and frilly look alike foliage, but the bloom does look exactly like what your name implies! :) They are also almost a dead ringer for Peters Gold Carpet which will come back from seeds annually, and takes a keen eye to tell the difference when they are young.

This is a most excellant year for weeds!!

According to my Edible Wild Plants (Peterson Field Guides- love 'em!), wild carrots is a synonym for Queen Anne's lace. Further, the roots (first year, says the book) may be prepared like garden carrots.

I should like to note that if one should NEVER eat a wild plant if one is not ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE of the identity of the wild plant they have in hand.

Wild carrots (Daucus carota) resemble poison hemlock (Conium maculatum). Among other distinguishing features: The former has a predictably carroty odor and "hairy" leaf stems. The latter has unpleasantly scented foliage and hairless stems.

The gold carpet looks cute! Is it an obnoxious (many and all over the place) self-sower, or is it more reasonable?

If anyone has young kids, pick your lovely weed (Queen Ann's Lace) put in in a vase with your preference of food coloring and the flower will take on the color. fun!
