Earlier today, Hayneedle, Inc. was awarded a 45 percent job creation tax credit for six years by the State of Ohio Department of Development. City staff has worked with a variety of national site selector professionals and local brokers since June of 2009 to increase employment opportunities for Monroe citizens and fill available distribution space with a growing privately held company that expects to increase its market share over the next few years. Hayneedle is a online specialty retailer of more than 200,000 individual items in the home goods, gardening and furniture categories. They plan on gradually consolidating two existing distribution centers from Nebraska and Tennessee. We have met with company representatives and they expect to begin operations in April 2010 with approximately 49 positions ranging from management to order fulfillment. The investment of the project is approximately $3.6 million and the value of the tax credit is estimated at $97,837 over the term, and the company would be required to maintain operations at the project site for nine years. At this time, Hayneedle anticipates a press release, full details, and a marketing campaign to begin in April.
