Citing significant legal and technical flaws in Middletown Coke
Company's recently-issued New Source Review air pollution permit,
Monroe City Council has directed its lawyers to appeal the permit
to the Ohio Environmental Review Appeals Commission. Council's
approval came at its regularly-scheduled meeting this evening.

Monroe CIC making a difference

The CIC recently awarded more than $30,000 in grant funds to local businesses through its Business Exterior Improvement Matching Grant and Downtown Development Programs. The Business Exterior Matching Grant Program awards grants up to $5,000 for exterior improvements to businesses throughout the City of Monroe and Lemon Township; the Downtown Development Grant Program provides grants up to $15,000 for eligible projects in downtown Monroe.

Law Department response to SunCoke permit

From the outset, Monroe’s concern has been that the Middletown Coke facility should be regulated under the stringent requirements of the federal New Source Review program. This new permit shows that Monroe’s objections to the original permit were valid. The new permit will result in reduced emissions of fine particulates and sulfur dioxide, which is of some benefit to the community.

City wide alert system and notification for residents

I do have a question/concern .... We have neighbors who very recently moved into Monroe. They were not recipients of the snow emergency alert (via email or the call system.)

Just a thought (and you might already do this - please forgive me if you do) but when we receive our mail from the City, could a flier be added to the mail advising them of the website and alert system??

City of Monroe rejoins Middletown chamber

Per Middletown Journal :

MONROE — The Chamber of Commerce Serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton has regained a former member.

The Monroe City Council by a 5-2 vote Tuesday, Jan. 12 approved renewing its membership with the chamber. Councilwoman Suzi Rubin and Councilman Bob Kelley voted against the measure after the city unanimously agreed not to partner with the chamber in December 2008.

Snow Removal Preparedness

The City of Monroe asks that you be proactive in removing vehicles from the street before snow storms hit. Because of the winter storm watch that has been issued for Thursday, the City Street Crews are preparing for an extended snow removal operation. Removal of vehicles from the street will greatly improve the efficiency of that operation. Plus, you will not have to clean them off to remove if a snow emergency is declared.
