Postby HRHPatey » Fri, 09 Oct 2009 22:13:13 GMT

WLWT :
CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Bengals are mourning the loss of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's wife.

Vikki Zimmer died suddenly Thursday, the team said. The team did not elaborate on how she died.

The Zimmers were married for 27 years and have three children. Zimmer is in his second season as defensive coordinator.

“We are stunned and saddened to learn of Vikki’s passing,” said Bengals president Mike Brown in a statement released to the media. “She was a warm and popular person in the Bengals family, and our immense respect and affection for Mike makes this especially hard. Our hearts go out to Mike and his family.”

Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis also released a statement. "Mike is part of our Bengals family, and we’ll support him in every way we can," said Lewis. "We will dearly miss Vikki. She was a friend to all of us, and a big supporter of Mike’s players. Her thoughtfulness to them in so many ways will also be greatly missed."

"I traveled among unknown men,
In lands beyond the sea:
Nor England! Did I know till then
What love I bore to thee."

The Bengals (or Comeback Cats) won the game for the coach today. He was entertaining (if profane) on the HBO preseason Bengals shows. His wife baked cookies for the team to make up for his ill temper.

The game announcers said he came home and found her dead. What a terrible thing. He coached today and had his children and father with him in Baltimore.

Go First place Bengas - have not been able to say that in a long time.
