For my happy, happy Birthday I got a 'knock out rose' bush. They are gorgeous and seemingly not even I can kill them (hope I didn't just jinx myself!)

But as it seams that I have resurrected my Orchids, and have new buds on my rose bush I might be becoming a tad overly confident but for anyone who is not blessed with green thumbs, I might have discovered a really beautiful plant that will withstand euthanasia ....

Knocks outs are amazing. Last year mom's were out of control gorgeous and even with her brown thumb, the roses flourished like no tomorrow.

Since planting I have already got several beautiful buds which have opened and are quite glorious!! I am amazed that this has happened under my care and in my flower beds ~ Whooo Hoooo!

You are discovering the secret of gardening! Give them water and some fertilizer for they are newly planted and not established but not excessive watering(I don't think that to be possible as dry as it is but don't know the dirt ) I put coffee grounds around mine all winter and it seemed to make a difference in my poor soil they are planted but it became a pain and I quit this summer.

The initial May bloom is spectacular and deadheading will encourage more blooms though not required to keep them going. Do you have single or double? color?

I have coffee grinds everyday - what is the purpose of them??? Should I add them now ?

They will add nutrients to the soil, work as a mulch to retain moisture, and "smother" weeds and eventually enrich the soil. It lowers the soil PH over time but according to the source I read it is OK on roses along with evergreens.

The downside is there could be a not so pleasant smell for awhile when wet!

HGB is too kind and gives me way too much credit. I have branched out in variety but have gotten lazy with labor intensive things! I am just a simple son of a farmer who can't stop playing in the dirt.!

Have been saving my coffee grinds for the last few days ..... tommorrow I'm going to be brilliant and actually put them outside

As roses go, the Knockout (TM) series seems to be fairly easy. My only complaint is that they are not as fragrant as rugosa roses. I want it all!

..... MG, I just need them to stay alive !!! LOL

To date they are constantly blooming and so pretty !!
