Another what is it

The picture isn't so great but any ideas what the purple bush might be? We cut it way back as it was nearly 6' tall. Love the color and would like one for my yard. (this is moms)

I want to know what the purple spikey things are that look like wild flowers around the statue in the bottom picture! I've always wanted to know what those were.

I think HBG nailed the shrub. That or a purple-leaved plum.

Ellie,

I think the spikes are Salvia nemerosa. 'Mainacht' ('May Night' being the English version of that name) is a commonly grown cultivar. I can personally recommend the cultivar Caradonna. Rich purple flowers held up on strong stems; ~2' tall.
