Woman Injured By Rock Thrown Through Car Window

How shocking!! Shameful that someone would do something like this and not even know the damage caused..
I do hope that they find the person responsible, however, think that might be wishful thinking :(

CINCINNATI -- A woman was critically injured over the weekend when a fist-sized rock came through an open car window and struck her in the forehead.
Cincinnati police said at least 10 other cars have been targeted by vandals along Columbia Parkway, but no arrests have been made.

Christa Roenser said she and her friend, Joyce Baresel, caught a taxicab Sunday around 1 a.m. and were headed home when the incident occurred.
"I heard, like, a loud noise, and thought it was just a rock hitting the windshield," Roenser said.
She looked at her friend and discovered it was much worse.
"She had her head down," Roenser said. "Her head was in her hands, and that's when I saw we were both covered in blood."
The 23-year-old Barasel suffered a major skull fracture and brain damage, her aunt said, and she will have permanent nerve damage.
"Our goal is hope that someone out there will come forward and the people who did this will realize practical jokes change someone's life forever," said Joyce Manzo.
Barasel was moved Wednesday from the intensive care unit at University Hospital, but she remains in critical condition.
An account has been set up at Fifth Third Bank to help pay for her medical care, and police are asking possible witnesses to step forward.

This actually happens quite a bit, unfortunately. I've seen/heard of several instances. This one of the primary reasons why overpasses typically have fences (in more populus locations).

23 yrs old and everything in life has changed. :cry:

Very sad. That is exactly why there are fences on overpasses on interstates! Several people were killed that prompted the change. A rock light enough to heave is like a cannonball going through a windshield.

We had this happen back in California several times with a few people hurt and a couple being killed. It was a particular bridge (over the 405 freeway) near our home that we traveled every day. They eventually installed the curved fencing on the overpass by sadly, the culprits were never caught.

OMG .... I did not know that was the reason for fencing... in my naiveté, I thought it was to prevent People from falling/jumping ( :( ) off bridges.

For anyone to do such a thing is astounding to me... :x

A person falling through a windshield would be worse than a rock!! :P

It happened that it developed very fast as these things sometimes do with people copying these stupid acts all over and the fencing was a priority that happened seemingly nationwide fairly fast.

Update via Ch 5

Thank Goodness they found him!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati police have made an arrest in a series of rock-throwing incidents along Columbia Parkway, including one that critically injured a woman.
District 2 officers arrested a 16-year-old boy and charged him with felonious assault just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.
News 5's Brian Hamrick said the teen confessed to the incidents. Hamrick said warrants were being signed for an 18-year-old man who is not yet in custody.
Police have been looking for a break in the case since several vehicles were struck by rocks on June 14.
Joyce Baresel and a friend, Christa Roenser, were headed home after a night out when a rock sailed through the cab's open window and struck Baresel in the forehead.
Baresel is home from the hospital now, but still requires constant care. Her skull was fractured, along with her eye socket and the bridge of her nose.
this is good news but sad that the young man thought this was entertainment for him and his friends. I think a sentence should include working to pay for the care of the the persons he hurt.
I feel a bit more harshly. Yes, pay for the lifetime of care AND cane him! 16 years old is mature enough to know she and others could easily have been killed. Not to mention, sometimes survival is worse than death. Throwing rocks off an overpass is attempted murder in my book, not felonious assult. Not sure what the DA was thinking. A possible 2-8 yr sentance is not long enough and a $15,000 fine sure isn't. :oops:
