It's not just our President that's not to be trusted. It's all politicians. On both sides of the aisle.
I don't like seeing small children with signs at political events (Tea parties or Union rallies for example) because they are too young to understand (or care) what they are "supporting" or "protesting". Just as I don't think small children carrying signs belong at these events, I don't think the President belongs in our schools pushing his political agenda.

Among the activities the government initially suggested for prekindergarten to sixth-grade students: that they "write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president."

Another task recommended for students immediately after listening to the speech: to engage in a discussion about what "the president wants us to do."

Sure sounds political in nature to me.
I taught him everything I know and he's still stupid. I don't understand it!!!

I have no problem with the content of the speech as it was delivered; however, the original format appeared to have a political slant to it and backpeddling was appearant. We DVR'd the speech and will attempt to watch it as a family, fighting through much resistance. :)

More important to me than the content of Obama's speech would be the opening given to a liberal Obama supporting teacher to impose those idea's in the classroom. If both sides were fairly presented, I would view it as an educational event and not have issues, but that would not be the case. When both sides are presented fair and balanced, the outcome is enevitable. :)

We watched about 20 minutes of with our kids which was all their attention spans could handle. I thought it was fine and motivating regardless of what side of the fence anyone is on.

All I have to say is that Bush 41 and Reagan both did the same thing. No controversy, no issue. I wasn't even alive for Reagan, and I was about 4 or 5 when Bush was in office. I don't see what the issue is with "work hard and go to college"...just my $0.02

Huh. Lotta fuss over nothing, IMO.

So, will people stop helping with anything that has the President attached? What kind of nonsense is that? Rather like throwing the baby out with the bath water if you ask me. But then, you didn't.
