Web Browsers

Postby kolby » Tue, 14 Jul 2009 16:52:26 GMT

Ok. So now I would like to know people's thoughts on the pro's and con's of the various web broswers. Especially since we have a topic for the various issues.

1. Chrome

2. Firefox

3. Mozilla

4. Safari

5. IE (various editions)

6. Netscape

7. Any others not mentioned above.

I have not had much experience with any other than IE or Netscape and am curious to possibly try one of the others.

LOL - This might take some explanation .... but here goes ..

On this laptop, I use :
Firefox
Google Chrome
IE
Ubunga (OS)
Windows(OS)

Downstairs (static computer)
IE
Chrome

I like Google Chrome, it appears to be conducive to all systems (so far and in my experience)
Firefox is excellent, BUT does not work coherently (for me) in all applications
IE - No brainer, works well, but has it's own limitations
Ubunga - hmmmmm I feel like I'm stepping back in time! (Is an OS) but was designed to work with FF - if ever there was a program designed to limit viruses, the two 'fer is an excellent choice - also rather speedy!

I can only comment on what I use - hope it helped

(NB: Isn't Mozilla and FF the same thing?)

I ONLY USE CHROME....I LOVE IT AND WILL NEVER GO back to anything other!!

I highly recommend trying this for a few days for it to store your sites. Once stored it is wonderful.
No toolbars and crap to clutter your screen as well.

These really aren't pros and cons, just some general thoughts and will probably going to get pretty off topic...

I use IE about 1-2% of the time. I just don't like it after using Firefox. I don't really have any specific reasons why, but that could be because it's been so long since I've used it.

I like Chrome, but just can't get in the habit of clicking it instead of Firefox. I haven't used it enough to have any cons about it.

I have Windows Vista and I think that is why anything and everything on my computer (especially Firefox) stops responding every other minute (basically anytime I click on anything). This has caused me to to start to hate Firefox, but I don't think it's Firefox's fault. I've learned that being patient and not clicking again for a minute sometimes allows for the programs to start responding again once in awhile. Often times I have to close it and start over and sometimes just have to hold down the power button and restart my computer entirely. And, it's new.

I said I was going to get off topic...

No really you aren't off topic, stating issues FireFox has. it has a very undesired effect on this forum as we have just recently worked out. Now FireFox works very well for a few of my programs that demand it. Wont go there.

IE to me just wants to add on toolbars, misc junk and nothing I use. i just prefer the clean and streamlined use of Chrome. and as well I have NEVER been booted, dropped or had any issues with any forum I have visited. and i have been visiting a lot for my own market study. That and it has a built in spell check so I mostly get my typing right .....lOl

I've always used IE but lately it's been freezing on both forums. FF did the same. I just d/l'd Chrome and so far so good and I really like the lack of clutter! Keeping my fingers crossed. Oh and our C&C website has some issues I didn't know about with this new browser - I got some work to do!

Yes Mam - I no longer use IE as my general web browser .... Chrome is the way to go .... As much as I like FF it is not user friendly for 'most' social sites (inclusive of Facebook that I use daily)

Internet Explorer has always been a web (virus, bot, etc.) programmers dream. It is very easy to circumvent the built in protections and if you don't have a good virus scanner/bot detector it can lead to many problems (blue screen of death anyone). I like Firefox because it does have a little more security. I find that most people don't even know that another browser exists. I introduced some of my coworkers to firefox two years ago when all the had ever used was the built in IE on PCs and Safari on Macs. It blew their minds to see something different. I like Chrome but I like firefox better. Not really sure as to why.

Also: I think that Netscape no longer makes their own browser. They had been copying firefox for a few years but I think now do not even offer updates to their older browsers.

I used to get the blue screen of death all the time (on my old computer). And it would tell me it was dumping my hard drive on some of them. Scary the first couple of times, annoying after that.

Hubby just did a bunch of stuff to my computer tonight and it seems to be working (fingers crossed) much better. I'm still defaulting back to Firefox. I was using Chrome earlier, but it kept doing weird stuff.

HRH, I've never had issues with Firefox and Facebook (and you know how often I'm on there!). What doesn't work for you?

I figured this would get a good conversation started. :D

Guess I'll have to try a few out and see which I like best.

The new IE is a serious drain and it's time for a change.

I thought all along my computer was harboring a bug or something as my surfing was on a dying wave. Since switching to Chrome I'm getting a lot more done and I'm no longer screaming for a page to "hurry up".

I thought I had a decent processor (Intel Core2 Duo T7200, 2Ghz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667Mhz FSB) and plenty of memory but was ready to chuck it all for a new one. I owe the Beas & HRH a drink! Thanks for opening my eyes to another world!
