Visiting Parents and places of interest

Postby HRHPatey » Sun, 15 Nov 2009 13:18:11 GMT

My Parents are arriving next Monday for a wonderful 7 week stay. We do not believe that we will be venturing out on lengthy trips, but would like to show them various places of interest (let's say within a couple hours of here) obviously with it being Christmas within this time frame, then Christmas experiences also.

I know of the following:

Neidermann Farm (?) - Christmas display
Cincinnati Zoo - Festival of lights (love this one)

and a couple others that although I know where they are I can't recall the names * Duh!*

Any suggestions???

If your parents are interested in the aif force museum that may be a good place to spend a day.

Clifton mill is not far from yellow springs and they have a nice light display every year.

Try the Cincinnati Observatory. It's one of the oldest observatories in the country and is supposedly a good time (if they don't mind staying up a bit late to see things).
Been meaning to take the young uns but haven't gotten to it yet.

Speaking of Cincinnati, visit Eden Park, specifically the Conservatory. It is beautiful at Christmas. Used to love the train display downtown, too.

We go thru Smith Park for Light Up Middletown about once a week. Take along a thermos of cocoa, park by the lake and watch the sparkly lights.

I'll give this topic more thought and report back! :P

Yellow springs is pretty cool to walk around. Not very big, but cool. As funny as this may sound, the wife and I go to the antique mall and just walk around. And we're by far the youngest people in there. We've bought a lot of stuff though too, that place is pretty cool. It's in fairfield where Van Lunens used to be (for anyone that knows that) next to laser web.

Or Gatlinburg. That's a nice trip/drive. Kentucky Falls is ok too. Ky falls during a full moon (or is it during a new moon?) has the only moonbow (opposite of a rainbow) in this hemisphere (I think that's right). If they're in to such things.
(and I'm not pulling your leg about moonbows) :D

Yeah. I had heard it referred to as kentucky Falls (I think), but is more commonly known as Cumberland Falls.
