Lands End (the most southern tip of Great Britain) to John 'O Groats (the most northernly tip ~ actually in Scotland) is exactly 874 miles apart !

To compare .... Lands End to New York is 3147 miles (rather anticipated  )

I didn't know the exact numbers before.

What is John O' Groats? Is that a town, a farmer's place, or something else? ("Are you going to John O' Groats' place this weekend for the party?) :D

Those Brits sure are slick when it comes to naming places. Who else would have thought to name the end of a land mass "Land's End"?
I taught him everything I know and he's still stupid. I don't understand it!!!

Hmmmmm albeit undeserving, I am actually contemplating offering the serious answer

John O' Groats is the name of the place. From Wikipedia:

The name John o' Groats has a particular resonance because it is often used as a starting or ending point for walks and charitable events to and from Land's End (at the extreme south-western tip of the Cornish peninsula in England). The phrase Land's End to John o' Groats is frequently heard both as a literal journey (being the longest possible in Great Britain) and as a metaphor for great or all-encompassing distance, similar to the American phrase coast to coast.

Wikipedia also states that Dunnet Head is the 'actual' most northern point (I guess geographically) ..interesting :-)
