This is a news publication about a young 17 year old who was found deceased after arranging to meet a purported '16 year' Facebook buddy ....... In actuality he was a 32 year old registered sex offender.

It goes without saying that we hear these stories all the time .... I guess for me, I read them and weep... This young lady had already covered her bases by telling her Parents that she would be staying over with a girlfriend, when in truth, she was arranging to meet someone 'she believed' was a 16 yr old friend met over the internet.

My Children both have access to the internet, I scrutinize every step they take and yet would still suggest that I have great fears, what can they see, who has access to them, etc, etc....

They do not have FB accounts, however, I do not believe that is the issue here, it is a willingness to accept on face value the communication from someone who represents themselves as something other than who they truly are.
Facebook, Twitter, Myspace etc, are only a tool ...... Keep your eyes open, read everything, anticipate everything ..... may we never encounter such an outcome !!!

In lands beyond the sea:
Nor England! Did I know till then
What love I bore to thee."
