Probable case of Swine Flu at our house.

Postby Ellie » Sat, 10 Oct 2009 17:31:02 GMT

Our poor little guy has achey bones, a temp of 103.3 and is vomiting. We took him to the doctor and he said they're not even testing for it because 95% of the cases they're seeing are indeed Swine Flu. So...my husband ran out and got sick people supplies for when I don't feel like cooking! I expect we'll get it too.

Awwwwwwwww Ellie - I am so sorry! I was so hoping that it wouldn't be the flu or H1N1 flu.

Not sure that I could be (anymore :( ) but if ya'll need anything, please don't hesitate to let me know!

~ Don't borrow trouble, here's hoping that the rest of you stay healthy and untouched by the yucky!!

Sympathies to all! I hope your kids don't share with you.
My house is healthy so far.

The testing for H1N1 is very expensive as well so docs are not testing unless they have to.

Ellie, I will call and check about voice lessons closer to Tuesday - sounds like you all might not be up to visitors yet.

Ellie, Not sure which school your children attend now, but I know that at least one of the Lakota Schools have Swine Flu because I got the letter on Friday.

Although my Children are sick, I have no reason to believe that it is the flu of any description..... I feel very much for Ellie's wee one, I can only imagine how tough it is dealing with the flu in a Child

Hopefully he's doing better today!

Wifo, yes, our children are in Lakota now and it is a mess here. Chris was the 10th in his class to get this.

I can tell you all it really isn't that bad. (Of course I'm not him! ) The first day was miserable, but now he's doing much better. His fever was down all day but has crept back up a bit this evening and now he has a sore throat. He's just started complaining about his ears so I'm wondering if he doesn't have an ear infection too. But if this is indeed Swine flu, it really isn't any different than the typical flu.

Bless his heart!!!!!! 10 children in his class - that's pretty scary! Hopefully they are addressing the issue and sanitizing appropriately... obviously it is rather rampant when it takes hold ! EEEK!

I spoke with another Neighbor this morning who advised that her Child was out of School, one of 7 in her class who were out. Another Friend told me last evening that her Child was ill ( Primary Student) seemingly in all cases, they are the same symptoms as my children have, fever, sore throats, coughs etc...

It does appear that this is a virus (if symptoms are the same) it is rather scary that this appears to be circulating at a rapid rate, when contracted it is lasting about 4-5 days.

My sincere hope is for all folks to PLEASE keep your Children out of school for the appropriate 24hr fever free time.... I say this as I know there are Parents, dosing their Children in a morning and still sending their Children to school ....then it becomes a far bigger issue

That was very nice of the teacher! I love all the Monroe teachers we have had throught the years. Great people.

I am hopeful that both your wee ones are back on their feet tomorrow. May the eldest be back on Thursday! High Hopes.

Yes, we had great experiences with Monroe teachers as well. Very kind and quick to take up the phone for any concern.

Chris probably had an intestinal bug after all. We took him back to the doctor again for a possible ear infection and sore throat and this second doctor was surprised to hear he had the Swine Flu diagnosis. The one major component he was missing was the upper respiratory junk. He never had any congestion. He had everything else, but without that major component, he did NOT have Swine Flu. That's good and bad. I was hoping it really was just that mild and now he's at risk for it just like everyone else. See...maybe they're over-diagnosing this now.

That's great news Ellie! Mine has been complaining about nausea and a sore throat for 2 days but no sign of fever, and his appetite has been fine.

I feel that it would be beneficial to write this .... An observation but maybe it might help others...

The current virus going around, usually involves a low grade fever, coughing, sore scratchy throats. There have been instances of nausea, but generally those are the symptoms. This virus tends to last for 4-6 days!

I have had two Children with it, various neighbors and nieces, there is a common trend here and this is why I think it is growing numbers in those affected and the longevity. The fever can be low grade and even appear to go (I have a little friend who was fever free for 24+ hours) but then it returns ... This is what happened to my eldest who then developed sinus infection and other yucky stuff!

The child I mentioned above, was fever free for over 24 hrs but then her fever returned later in the evening.... it would not be unreasonable to have a Child return to School (24hr period) only to discover the fever is back and consequently more little ones exposed!

This also is a virus with longevity .... most I know who have the same diagnosis have been / are sick for about 5/6 days, without the addition of any subsequent infections (as in my Child's situation)

I know of one little one who is very sick in the Hospital, started with viral issues but sucuumbed to a different infection... (Prayers sent!) Please be aware and watch out - the fever can be low grade 100.... to start with!

I most certainly do not wish to be an alarmist, as I said these are my experiences and observations only ~ would just advise that you are aware and take your preferred precautions if any signs show up

I think I am going to stay home and not leave until Spring.

My cousin had an appt with Dr Hurlburt yesterday. The office called her say there was no way he was going to be there by 10am because he had so many patients in the hospital. Sooo.. they rescheduled her from 10am to 7:30pm. She left the office at 10:30 last night!!!

Dr H must be exhausted at this rate. What happens if the doctor gets sick? I did overhear at Kroger the other day that some of their people are out sick, too. Something is certainly going around.

On a different note, if you have any congestion I highly recommend Mucinex. I have asthma and it helps more than my inhaler to clear my chest and help me breathe easier.
