Please Pray for My Son Austin

Postby Beasly » Wed, 12 Aug 2009 17:30:26 GMT

Well it truly has been a trying day. I have learned the New Children's Hospital like the back of my hand.

My son was shot in his left eye this morning with an airsoft gun at close range. His Cornea is severely damaged and indented over his pupil. I have to take him to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati tomorrow to see what they can do to restore his sight which is limited to 20% or less as of now. They are talking about possible immediate surgery as soon as he is seen. I have nothing to ask for, but your prayers.
Please add him to your thoughts and prayers.

Beasly,
Prayers a'comin'.
My Supervisor had a similar situation a year or two ago. His teenaged son was shot in the eye by a pellet or BB gun. His was eye was severely damaged but he was taken to Cincinnati Eye instute and they did some work on the eye. As far as I know, his vision is normal again.
It took awhile to get through several procedures but he's good-to-go now.
A lesson to all of us: wear eye protection whenever shooting or working on something mechanical. I went to college with a guy who was working underneath his car. The pliers he was using slipped and plunged into his eye. He got back some of his vision after 7 surgeries, but still had to wear a specially-made contact lens.
Again, Beasly, Prayers are a-comin'.
PM me if I can be of assistance. I'll help in any way possible.
I taught him everything I know and he's still stupid. I don't understand it!!!

My thoughts & prayers are with you and your son - I hope that he heals quickly and completely!
I was blessed with a birth and a death, and I guess I just want some say in between.

Well all the thoughts, prayers and concerns have been working. Just got back from Children's in Cincinnati. After a 2 hour exam they determined surgery isn't needed to restore things. The next 24-48 hours are the critical hours to keep a close eye on him for anything to go haywire inside his eye.
The Cornea is starting to heal and the divot over his pupil is still noticeable, although is healing and should fill in with time.
Again, I thank all of you for your thoughts, concerns and phone calls.
I will keep you updated as things progress.

I have a feeling he has a "light" shining down on him and all will be fine, Beas. :)
