Oh My .... Ants alive!!!

Postby HRHPatey » Mon, 12 Oct 2009 18:09:26 GMT

My Son just pointed out to me the bajillions of ants crawling on the patio stones out back. These are reddish in color and have wings!!!

I have never seen such and if the page I just went to is correct, these little blighter's can leave you with a bit of a sting. The photograph looks about right ...... : http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/ant.htm

I have any spray that I will happily spray this Evening ... but in the interim was wondering if anyone has ever seen these before ?

Yikes! Are they the typical dreaded red ants? Those are terrible.

Because we had a bee problem and had to pay a ridiculous amount we went ahead and put the amount we payed toward a couple free months worth of having Orkin take care of us for a while.

Bizarre, they have all disappeared  Evidently as Evening draws in they scoot back to the nest or whatever.... Have already got Hubby set with his 'Honey Do' list.... in the interim, am pulling out the ground cinnamon, coffee and whatever else I can get my hands on ;-)

- I would rather try the home approach before the Orkin approach (because they are outside - different story if they were inside!!!) but I'm certainly not opposed to bringing in the forces if necessary!!

Yeah, I figure bugs are tpically good. They keep nature running in its natural order. We only did it because it made financial sense to do so since we had to have them out for bees.

ESPECIALLY for bees in your House - Oh my!!!! I am SO thankful that we do not appear to have bugs in the House ... with an exception to spiders... the Cat looks at them and puts her head down anymore, they have worn her out!!

I have had a Summer of daily wiping away cobwebs (What is up with that ???) the little tiny spiders create a new line while we are all sleeping I think!! As I finish vacuuming the floor I have to take the extension and go around the ceiling, lights, air vents etc... then the next day repeat. I don't recall last year having this same issue.
