New resident needs your help

Postby reade13 » Tue, 07 Jul 2009 17:36:36 GMT

Hello all,

My family is moving to Monroe next month (scouring this discussion board for information on the community/residents helped our decision--thanks!), and I'd like to set up our satellite tv and Internet service. Can anyone tell me what Internet Service Providers you recommend, and whether you've found any great deals on satellite tv service?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Welcome to the only site you will need for information.....lol
Depending on where in town you will be you have a couple of choices for internet. SBC (which I have and love) and roadrunner which I hear is pretty good. I have dish network tv and have never had an issue with it. When we had the ice storms blow through some time back, the cable (roadrunner , time warner cable) was down for some time. With the aid of a generator I had electric / tv within 1/2 hr. I can get you a referral card for dish that will save you some cash if you decide to go that way. They get all the local channels and offer the HD ones as well.

I would also like to recommend that you click the link in my signature and sign up for the email alerts and go to the city web page also listed in my signature and sign up for the code red service when you have a phone number. That will allow for emergency information to get to you in real time.

Thank you very much, Bob! Do you happen to have a web site address for your SBC service? When I use the SBC and AT&T sites, they say service isn't available at our location. Either I'm using the wrong web site, or SBC only services portions of Monroe (we're moving into Bridle Creek).

You should be able to get AT&T. I just got a flyer about their service. Unfortunately, I can't find it in my trash otherwise I would give you the info. I prefer time warner but thats just me.

What street are you moving to (if you don't mind me asking)? Just curious as the house next to use just sold. :)

We have Time Warner for our internet and cable.
I was blessed with a birth and a death, and I guess I just want some say in between.

I live in the Applegate community. I have the 3 combo pack (Cable, phone and Internet) via Time Warner.

Our package 'bundle' deal is rather impressive and we have not had any issues with it, However, I will say (truthfully)that having the Cable phone is problematic when we have power outages, but as both DH and I have cell phones, it rarely causes any real issues.

The website is : http://www.timewarnercable.com/Cincinna ... 2975103205

Look into both options, I would also advise you to sign up for City alerts

Reade13 - welcome to Monroe! Do you have Children? Might you be looking for something in particular? Please feel free to contact me personally (via email or PM) or post a question, we'll be more than happy to offer suggestions .... I know you'll love it here - we do :D

We live in Applegate as well and have the TW package. We do not like cable, but have limited choices as the trees are thick behind the house (where the satelite signal would come). I would definitely have to agree with the cable phone issue when the electric goes out....but then again, we do not use our landline.

To clarify the Monroe links.....
The one is a general e-mail that goes out to all (e.g. National Weather service, accidents, road closures). The code red is suppose to be focused to the population being affected (e.g. water needs boiled due to pipe burst). Both are definitely good to have, to keep you informed.

Boy, you guys have been great--thanks so much! We'll definitely sign up for the email alerts, and to answer the question about where we're moving: Turf View Ct. in Bridle Creek. (Loved houses on Sackett and Old Carriage, too, but they didn't quite pan out for us.) I hope our new neighbors are as nice as you all have been.

The AT&T site still says service is unavailable to us, but I'm wondering now if that's just a glitch on the web site. I'll give them a call, and check out the other providers mentioned in this thread, too.

Any other opinions/ideas, let us know--the more info the better!

Thanks again,
Eric

By the way, HRHPatey, I recognize the quote in your signature from my grad school days...Coleridge? Wordsworth? Blake? One of the Romantics. I'm guessing Wordsworth.

Yes Sir ....... William Wordsworth :D I was going to use Shakespeare ( I adore Shakespeare!) but this passage from "I Travelled among Unknown Men" was so incredibly appropriate for me.... :D

How fantastic!!! English Lit is my passion, always has been... I adore the classics but over all, Shakespeare. At 13 years old whilst others were getting bicycles and skates, I asked for the Complete works of William Shakespeare, I was determined to read and understand all he wrote.

I had the great fortune of Family living in Stratford Upon Avon so was able to visit and appreciate the birthplace of Shakespeare - just steeped in historical value and culture....ah! how glorious!!
