OAKLEY -- The Cincinnati Bomb Squad is examining what appears to be an old artillery shell thrown out with the trash in an Oakley neighborhood.
Officers and firefighters were called to the 3900 block of Paxton Avenue just before 7:30 a.m. after a sanitation worker said he found the shell in the back of the truck after dumping out a trash can.
Bomb squad members examined the shell and said they believed it was inactive, but they would have to examine the shell with an X-ray to be sure.
No homes were evacuated, but the street was closed for about an hour until the shell was removed.
