Meth lab remains dumped in Monroe
Staff Report
Updated 8:14 AM Thursday, July 16, 2009

MONROE — The Butler County Sheriff’s Office bomb unit assisted Monroe firefighters Wednesday, July 15, cleaning up the remains of a rolling meth lab, according to Monroe Assistant Fire Chief John Centers.

Bottles, tubes and filters, commonly used in the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine, were found about 9:30 a.m. dumped on the side of the road at Oxford State Road and Ohio 4.

Deputies collected the items and disposed of them safely, Centers said.

This is no indication at this time who dumped the times or where they came from, according to authorities.

Is meth a big problem here? I know it is in California - it's use is absolutely rampant. Never thought much about Ohio, though.

Golly! I'm glad that it was cleared away and no Children came across it :o

It's becoming a HUGE problem in the midwest. This is the first instance, I recall reading for Monroe. There are several surrounding areas where there have been numerous busts or finds. The processing and the chemicals involved, make it a VERY scary situation.

This truly is a concern...... How many times do we read about 'Meth Labs' within Homes ? Gracious, this could be your Neighbor

The combustion factor alone makes me shudder.... add the potential for undesireables wandering your streets and you have more than 'cause for concern.'

This particular find was spotted and by the grace of goodness, removed, before any incidents happened....

Although I am familiar with Rte 4 I am not really able to pin point this location..... My hope would be that this is not an area where Children could come across such items :x Again, Thank goodness it was cleared out before any harm was done!

It's not only homes.....

It's hotels and the after-affects can be just as dangerous. Abandoned cars, such as the story above. Purchasing a home that was a prior lab. Most of these places end up getting bulldozed in, due to the hazardous conditions.

How scary is that  :?:

I have lived such a seemingly 'sheltered' life that I frequently find myself appropriately, yet astoundingly, shocked

Me, too HRH. I had NO idea about crystal meth til I moved to SoCal. I became good friends with someone who one night offered me "something". She was very convincing that it was harmless. I still refused. (My past is not pristine but I don't even want to take aspirin or Motrin) I later found out it was meth, she was quite addicted and it freaked me out. When I did a little research it certainly explained the odd behavior and obsessiveness. Thinking back, I frequently drove her to the dealer and was told to stay in the car. I was such a dummy. Then again, I come from a family that doesn't swear, drink or smoke (nor religious, so go figure!) :o

I could write a book. Probably should. 8)

Eeeeek! I too encountered a similar situation .......
Whilst being amongst 'friends' was more than perplexed that an individual I had spent time talking with, was becoming increasingly incoherent.... (At this stage would point out that even in this social setting, the individual was only drinking coca cola, therefore I felt comfortable assuming that they were not drinking alcohol)
It was later 'revealed' that in my innocence, I had failed to recognize a 'roll your own cigarette' (a common occurrence in England) as a 'joint' ......... I was the butt (no pun intended) of many jokes, but it most certainly did underscore my lack of knowledge, understanding and most importantly awareness of a situation not conducive to my chosen lifestyle.....

I cannot adequately describe my concern ..... As a Mother I read and hear such stories that I am fearful I would choose the 'smother' route verses the observation route ....... Hopefully I will find the appropriate choice ..... in the interim, I am still researching, talking about and praying that I do not ever have put action to any concerns...... Oh My!!
