Lemon Twp Government

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees. Lemon Twp includes most of the city of Monroe and now exists as disconnected pieces because of annexations by Monroe and Middletown.

At one time Lemon Twp was not suppose to exist. If you look at the maps you see 6 area's in Lemon Twp that do not connect with each other. Some area's are part of the Twp because those who own the land do not want to pay city taxes. The other parts are still in the Twp because Monroe and Middletown do not want them. They get Police and Fire from Monroe and should due to the fact you have to go through most sections to get from one side of Monroe to the other. How long will this go on? Would the city of Monroe be better off annexing some of these area's for the taxes or continue to charge Lemon Twp for those services? The tiny spot on the map located in the southeastern part of the Twp looks like someone's back yard. I think I can get my neighbors together and we could take our subdivision out of the city limits and still receive the great services of Monroe at the cost of the Twp. I hate paying those city income taxes myself. I'm sure the city would not care. They must get more money from the Twp than what they would from being in the city. JMO

I need a history lesson.

How (and when) in the world did Monroe end up providing services down in Excello and all the way out past LeSoudesville on Rt 4 if these areas are Lemon Twp, not Monoe? Sorry if I sound so stupid, but if Lemon Twp residents pay no taxes, where does the money come from to pay Monroe? Police, fire & road maintenance aren't free.

I know in the past, Excello was serviced by Middletown and I can understand no one wanting that crappy area. But if Monroe annexed it, wouldn't there be enough of a tax base with Kroger, CVS, etc to perhaps pay for a new police substation in that area? Our officers are there all the time anyway.

I believe Lemon contracts and pays for these services from Monroe. You left out the obvious local area behind Monroe Krogers, still Lemon township. There are little "slivers" of Lemon spread all around. At one time, it was the largest Township in Ohio and now is the smallest. Your daily trivia! :D

You need to vote for Mr. Snook he has gone above and beyond when it comes to helping the residents of Lemon Township fight for what is right when it comes to SunCoke.
