I understood that the event was a sight to see last year - I personally wish everyone involved the most sucess to once again provide Monroe with a fun filled day

It won't be as big as last year's but there's only so much you can do with such little time and resources.

The bottom line is the same as it has been since 2007. It's an event by and for the people of Monroe and it's something they should be very proud of. I think sometimes people lose sight of that and turn it into a vehicle to further their own agendas. It's truly a shame and it leads to where the committee is now.

Mark, Cherie, and Carmen have done a great job getting the job done - so, hats off to them!

I'll be back at the band stage most of the time Saturday; so swing on by and say "Hi"
or just kick me in the teeth - whichever. :D

E.S.P. is gonna be playing right before The Rick House Band headlines the event which leads into the fireworks...and from the "This Just In" file: E.S.P. and The Rick House Band will take the stage together immediately following the fireworks for some REALLY high powered rock and roll!

See everybody Saturday!

I saw the full page ad in the Observer and admit I felt excited and a little sad we didn't help this year. I think it will be a huge success and everyone will have lots of fun!! (love the food vendors this year!)

Thanks to the Committee and everyone involved for making Monroe proud! :D

Don't forget to stop the Ring Toss Booth and try your luck... All proceeds going to The Kenny Ellis Cancer Fund!

Kroger donated all the 2 Liters of Soda and Postal Solutions donated the great signage!

From the Monroe Observer...

Monroe's "Light Up the Sky" Fourth of July Festival will end in a bang with fireworks displays on July 4th at Monroe Community Park.

Fireworks will begin at dark, with gates opening at noon on Saturday. Events are planned for the whole day, including a parade, rides and games for the kids. The schedule for the 4th of July events and games is listed below. A schedule and more information is available on page 12.

12:00 Little Miss/Mr. Red, White and Blue

1:00 Sack Races

2:00 Best Apple Pie Judging

2:30 Hot Dog Eating Contest

3:00 Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest

4:00 Watermelon Toss

5:00 Tug of War

6:30 Cornhole Tournament

Free musical entertainment will be provided by Rick House Band, ESP, Slick Affection and Perfect Brew before the fireworks. Multiple eateries, including The Red Onion Cafe, Chick-Fil-A, and Yardbird's Southern BBQ, will be in attendance, allowing attendees a wide selection of food. The city will be hosting the 4th of July parade departing from Heritage Green at 5:00. For further information, visit our website at LightUpTheSkyMonroe.com.
I think I have learned to appreciate and treasure each day, because you don't know how many you're going to be given.

Four Corners Church Youth Group is having the Chic Fil A booth again this year at the Light Up the Sky Festival. Come out and support a great group of kids. Many from Monroe. You can even meet Mr. and Mrs. Blueblood.

The proceeds of the sale go to support the youth missions work.

The week of July 12 the youth will be working at the Swan House, a Battered Women’s Shelter in Cinci, at the Middletown Dream Center and completing yard and house work for Church widows/elderly.

Last year, the youth spent a week at the Cincinnati Bible College and helped gut and rebuild the Swan House. This year they will be completing Exterior painting of top of the building, trimming trees that are damaging the roof, Dry wall work in the basement of the house in the laundry area, Cleaning out a donated refrigerator, sealing wooden steps and painting lawn furniture that was donated.

At the Dream House, we are serving lunch and playing games, singing with the kids. We are also collecting non perishables to make weekend bags for the kids/families. Some of these kids dont get lunch on the weekend. They only eat lunch when it is free at the dream center. Also many personal items are not allowable on food stamps - toilet paper, soap, etc.

So you are supporting GREAT work by some GREAT kids and you get a GREAT sandwich to booth!!

There will be a booth selling roasted corn on the cob. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Monroe HS Choir for the purchase of new robes. The more ears you buy, the more ears they can please in style.

Thanks

raised almost $700 for the choir robes selling corn. Thanks Tom and Maryanne Leeds for donating the corn, Mark and the Red Onion staff for the booth space and help, Dr. Lolli, my daughter Danielle and niece Karli, Mr. and Mrs. Leeds, and anyone else who stopped by to help that I missed. Bob Kelley and I grilled in the rain most of the day between two parades, a few baseball games, and fight or two over a few wings and a funnel cake! lol.
Had a great time, and hope everyone enjoyed the corn. The money will go to a great cause.
