Irons

Postby ~H*B*G~ » Mon, 21 Sep 2009 17:00:09 GMT

I've never been one to iron much, but have discovered that the iron I've had for 20 years is on it's last leg. I'd like to get a new one and would like suggestions for brands/types that would be great for someone like me. Don't want the cheapest, nor the most expensive. Thanks for suggestions.

I have a Rowenta that does a great job but its very heavy. I suggest hiring a member of Monroe royalty.

LOL - I actually have two. The one I keep downstairs is a basic 'no big deal' kind of iron, I recall (twas years ago when I purchased it) it was minimally priced, but still does a good job (black and decker model) The iron upstairs is a Panasonic, at the time I bought it, it was a 'good' one, not super expensive, but not low end.

I believe the best way to determine the appropriate iron for you is to hold it in your hand (I do this with hairdryers too  ) see that the weight and size suits you, then look for the 'stay clean' feature - with my older iron I have to periodically de-lime it with white vinegar/water ... a process I am thankful I don't have to do with both!! lastly, get an ironing cloth.... a lot of damage can be done to your clothes and the iron if you should catch one of those applicate's on t'shirts etc.... plus with an ironing cloth you can iron over slacks without leaving the shiny lines

There are new irons out that have a built in steamer - these babies are hundreds of dollars but apparently they are INCREDIBLE ..... I can't see myself purchasing one, but.... I'll never say never

The new ones are pretty nice. Turn themselves off. Use regular water not distilled.

I bought a new one a couple of years ago and it is ok. It irons....

Not ready to replace yet. It is a TFAL

Cant believe you had an iron for 20 years....was it that good. Or is it something you have put off forever.
That is how I was with my old one...

Think I got it at Kohls.

I just don't iron. I used to ask my mom to do it (Granny was really the greatest) and I have a dear friend that has done it for me before. as I said earlier I do ok with it, but I think I could do better with a newer one, and one that heats properly would probably help too.
