Cincinnati area Kroger stores have placed signs in their meat departments informing shoppers to check their ground beef: some that was recently sold may be part of an expanding nationwide recall.
108 Kroger stores in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and Dayton are now posting the latest information on the Nebraska Beef recall, indicating some of it may have been sold in our area.
A recall of meat produced by Nebraska Beef Ltd. was expanded Thursday to include an additional 160,000 pounds of beef. Over one million pounds are affected overall.
The recalls began Aug. 8 after the company's meat was linked to an E. coli outbreak in 10 states, including Ohio. Whole Foods recently recalled its ground beef.
Kroger tells its TriState customers to check the date on their Kroger brand ground beef: if it has a "sell by" date of August 1 through August 16, do not eat it and return it to the store.
