Future of Pontiacs

I'm buying a new car soon and a Pontiac Solstice is one of my options. Hubby is worried about parts since they are phasing out Pontiac. How much of an issue will this be? Would you buy a Pontiac?

Parts will not be an issue. You can still buy Oldsmobile parts, which they phased out 3-4 yrs ago. With the multiple brand flatforms.....the automakers made most parts the same across the different platforms. There might be some parts that are specific to the brand and may take a little longer to acquire.

If I hadn't bought my Grand Prix last year, I'd definitely would be out buying a Pontiac now. Oh well. :D

I was just getting use to the Solstice and the Saturn version. Now they'll both be gone from production. Guess I'll have to buy a used one in a few years.

Happy shopping.

Buy a Mustang - there will always be parts (and mechanics) for America's pony car!! Plus there are lots of great clubs and cool shows to attend. We had an absolute blast on the Mustangs Across America drive in April. Over 600 ponies in the caravan and over 4000 at the show in Birmingham.

I believe any product must have parts available for 5 years after end of production. I like the look of the Solstice too, but resale value may decline more rapidly than other brands, only to pick back up 25 yrs from now once it's considered an antique.

I have a Pontiac also and will have it paid off within a year so I am thinking about getting a new one while they close them out. Let me know what kind of deals are out there or if you here of any deals because I will be interested.

I'm probably going to get a used one (2006 or 2007) - we don't buy new cars, as they depreciate too quickly and we don't think it's worth it.

Catnip, (I'm afraid to say this) but I don't like Mustangs! :o For some reason I have never wanted one.

Thanks for the advice, everyone - I've pretty much heard the same thing from others so that makes me feel better!

I never wanted a Mustang, either, until I drove one. And then I understood. :D 8) :P

We did buy the truck new but Guyler made us such a great deal we couldn't pass it up. Otherwise we usually go certified pre-owned, a year or two old and always look for low miles. We do that buy shopping online (which I KNOW you appreicate!) :D You can also get good deals on demos or loaners. If you are looking sporty, please try the Lexus IS. The 250 comes in AWD but the 350 kicks! We sat in the dealers lounge for 2 hours recently debating whether to go IS or ES. Ya gotta weigh in dealer perks, too.

Are you considering any other models?
