Bob Wells, the former mayor of Middletown, died Sunday, July 5 at the age of 76.

Wells had been working in his yard that day, on Fisher Avenue, said his wife, Nancy, when she found him dead in the bathroom. Wells had a history of heart trouble and had been released from the hospital a week ago.
“He touched so many lives from Kiwanis to (city council,” Nancy Wells said. “He loved this town. It was his pride and joy. He fought for it.”
Wells had served on city council from 1999 through the end of 2006, which included terms as both mayor and vice mayor.
He submitted his resignation to council in December 2006, deciding not to finish his term. He said at the time, “I wanted to finish my last year ... but I can’t do it another year. It was just too much.” Wells also cited his health and discord on the council at the time as factors in his decision.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Wilson-Schramm -Spaulding Funeral Home.
