Oprah Winfrey Presents: Mitch Albom's For One More Day
Sunday, December 9 at 9/8c on ABC

For anyone who saw Oprah's 'For one more day" show you will already be aware of the ABC show this evening.

Oprah had this topic for a show last week and talked with several people about the premise of having one more day with someone you loved and lost - what you would do, talk about and most importantly how you would spend it doing something that resonated your feelings ~ one simple day !

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I had one more day with someone loved and lost, it would be with my Aunty Barbara - she passed away 3 years ago quite suddenly.
As a child a birthday treat was to go to a 'posh' restaurant in Doncaster, I would take her there, drink tea and eat rich food (her fave) We would sit and she could show me how she knits (Mum says that I knit quite like her)
We would watch the Movie 'Yanks' (another fave) where she would cry and laugh and wheez her way through it...... I would make her laugh, I loved to do that, she had little control of herself when she got going ...... I think I would do all of those things plus tell her just how much I loved her, over and over........ my biggest regret is that I didn't tell her enough when she was alive and more importantly, I judged her harshly when she fell victim to Human inperfections..
Wow, that was rather deep, yet slightly cathartic :oops:
Hmmm...tough one for me, mainly because I have only lost one person in my life, and that was my grandmother. She and I had a strained relationship most of my life, though she had mellowed significantly by the time she died. Though I never considered her a grandma, exactly, by the time she died I considered her a friend. My mom would say the same. So I am actually content to say that I am comfortable where things were left when she passed. She was all the way in NC. We got to see her in the hospital when she could still talk. She didn't know she was dieing, but we did. That was the hard part...to say good-bye without saying good-bye. When the time actually came, my brother and I each called her on the phone because it seemed as though she was hanging on until she had heard from ALL of her grandchildren. We called and told her it was ok to say "good-bye". She died shortly after.
But if I could spend one more day with ANY loved one who had passed, would it be horrible to say my family dog? We had a little peek-a-poo we got when I was just four and she died when I was 21. She'd been with me nearly my entire life and I didn't get to say good-bye because she died when I was away at college. The last thing I'd said to her was "I promise I'll play with you more next time." :cry: So if I had one more day, I'd spend it playing with her in the back yard, rubbing her belly, feeling her nuzzle my hand back up on her head when I'd stop petting her. She was a good dog.
Ellie - what a sweet sentiment :)
Growing up we had a West highland White Terrier : Penny (named because our Family name is Farthing :lol: ) She was the most wonderful pet - a beloved Family member and still greatly missed by all.
Penny Farthing...cute! Ours was "Heidi" because as a pup she was tiny and when she hid she was hard to find! Funny how pets nuzzle their way right into our hearts. Our littlest pup is 9 years old and I worry about the day she goes because our kids have never known life without him.
i would spend a day with my nanan I remember her as a child would I don't know the adult, but I would ask her about my mum and auntie and find out about our family history.
i would want to share with her what a wonderful family we are and how wonderful her nephews and nieces are, I remember her taking me to bingo and always having pens and jaffa cakes in her bag.
I would love to spoil her and give her a taste of the better things in life as she worked so hard but never has much, so i would treat her like the queen for the day and thank her for our wonderful mum who misses her today the same as she did 20 years ago, just the thought of doing it bring tears to my eyes.
