Child Enticement .... worth a conversation

Postby HRHPatey » Tue, 14 Jul 2009 15:56:36 GMT

Although we have been most fortunate to not have this happen in our area, I have read horror stories about Children being approached within the Cincinnati area.
The latest was a story about a 4 year old, playing in his driveway, approached by a Man in a minivan offering him candy   By the grace of goodness, the Child ran to the back garden where his 6 year old sister was playing, told her, who in turn told an Adult.

Please take a moment and revisit the fundamentals with your Children .... you simply do not know when they might recall the conversation (as seemingly this little guy did).

In lands beyond the sea:
Nor England! Did I know till then
What love I bore to thee."

This is one of our pet-peeves. There are SOOOO many parents that do not watch their kids in stores, restaurants, malls, and other public places. It really is amazing that there are not more instances. If I see a kid wander off from their parents, I usually keep an eye on them. There's been a few instances where I have to tell the parent(s) where the child is. :x

Kolby, I couldn't agree more !

My 12 year old does not have the same restrictions as her 8 year old brother, but, even her walkabouts are monitored and only permission given is from our Home to her Girlfriends house or back garden (all with 15 minute check in's with me via phone)
My Son was permitted for the first time to venture up to his friend's House (2 doors away) BUT with instructions!! I watched him walk away and straight into their garage (where I could no longer see him :x ) I immediately called the Parents and suffice to say it will be quite a while before he is given any such freedoms! (He is now FULLY aware of his lack of judgement, even if it was only momentarily.)

It only takes a moment..... For the most part, those willing to approach Children already have an intent in mind.... Keep those babies close and talk to them ( we use role play - it's fun and informative!)

These are my personal opinions, I do not judge or care to condemn anyone who feels differently... I care only about the safety and welbeing of my Children......
