Army post shooting rampage leaves 13 dead, 30 hurt

How utterly tragic! I saw this story break yesterday and simply couldn't fathom why such things take place - Thoughts and prayers to all affected. This is a very harsh judgement to make but as I understood it yesterday Major. Hasan was a pacifist and did not wish to go to war, so as an act to prove his point he open fired on fellow soldiers ???? One has to take into consideration he clearly has some issues, fortunately justice will prevail, last I heard although wounded he was alive and will be facing a military trial for his crimes.

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - Military officials were starting Friday to piece together what may have pushed an Army psychiatrist trained to help soldiers in distress to turn on his comrades in a shooting rampage that killed 13 people and wounded 30 in Texas.

The suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was on a ventilator and unconscious in a hospital after being shot four times during the shootings at the Army's sprawling Fort Hood, post officials said. In the early chaos after the shootings, authorities believed they had killed him, only to discover later that he had survived.

In Washington, a senior U.S. official said authorities at Fort Hood initially thought one of the victims who had been shot and killed was the shooter. The mistake resulted in a delay of several hours in identifying Hasan as the alleged assailant.

Authorities have not ruled out that Hasan was acting on behalf of some unidentified radical group, the official said. He would not say whether any evidence had come to light to support that theory.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss matters that were under investigation.

Officials are not ruling out the possibility that some of the casualties may have been victims of "friendly fire," that in the mayhem and confusion at the shooting scene some of the responding military officials may have shot some of the victims.

I'm glad he was not killed. That would have been too easy of a way out. I don't think it's done anymore, but if convicted, I'd like to see him face a firing squad. More than likely, he'll be convicted and executed via injection. He should have to stare down the wrong end of a barrel, just as his victims had to.
I taught him everything I know and he's still stupid. I don't understand it!!!

This is moving in the direction of becoming a home grown terrorist attack on our military and on our soil!! Very similar to the guy who rolled a grenade in the tent in Kuwait at the beginning of the war.

Troubling portrait emerges of Fort Hood suspect

But, more recently, federal agents grew suspicious.

At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.

They had not determined for certain whether Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.

Our Government will not classify this as a terrorist incident. They never do. Mostly because they don't want to bring attention to Islamic Extremists killing Americans on American soil.
It's ok to make hate-crime legislation to give special consideration to gays and minorities, but the line is drawn at saying some Muslims are extremists and trying to terrorize/kill American citizens on American soil, soley because they're Americans.
We need to wake up!!!!!!

Here is the Fox report:

The Army psychiatrist suspected of being the lone gunman in a horrific massacre at Fort Hood in Texas took a "very calm and measured approach" to carrying out the mass shooting, the commanding general said Friday.

Survivors of the rampage that killed 13 and wounded 30 said the suspect, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, shouted"Allahu Akbar!" — "God is great!" in Arabic — before opening fire, base commander Lt. Gen. Robert Cone said.

Cone said officials had not yet confirmed that Hasan, 39, made the comment. Authorities searched his apartment early Friday for clues but haven't yet been able to talk to Hasan, who survived the shootings and was hospitalized on a ventilator.

Federal authorities seized Hasan's computer Friday. It was not immediately known if FBI agents found anything suspicious on Hasan's computer files.

It is amazing to see the spin around this incident when compared to the evidence and there was not just smoke here, but a blazing inferno! :o I hope the media (not a chance from these guys) will get off their liberal butts and ask the questions and call the responsible departments to answer the questions that most of America want asked and answered and hold them accountable.

They are squelching this whole thing because there appears to be gross negligence and blood on multiple hands. Political correctness will be our ultimate downfall. I hope heads roll over this but it has been downplayed from the beginning so heavily that the writing is on the wall. Nothing will happen and lessons will not be learned as we don't want to offend our islomofacists friends.  :o
