Yes, I'm still reminding everyone of the big game this coming SATURDAY, August, 8th at 11am at the Monroe Community Park on S. Main Street and it's FREE!!!!!

Ye Olde Tyme Base Ball Game

MONROE GOLDEN LADS BASE BALL TEAM

Saturday, August 8 2009
Festivities Starting Time..... 11:00am


Log Cabin will be open for visitors and Docents will be in 1800's period costume!

Red Onion Cafe will be serving base ball fare.....
Popcorn, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, brats, salt-water taffy, soft drinks

Monroe Optimist Club serving ice cream floats!

Catnip & Carrots will have CrackerJacks and cold/frozen candy bars with all proceeds to Monroe Lending Library!

Races starting at 11:00 am and lasting until 12:45 (15 minutes per race)
Three-legged Races (adult and child) (two adults )(two children, below age 17)
Potato Sack Races (children under 13) (open to all ages)
Wheel Barrow race (adult and child)
All-Out Race (once around the diamonds, open to all ages)

Races officiated by the Optimist Joie Club of Monroe
1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons provided by Monroe Optimist Club

12:45pm Flag Raising and Star-Spangled Banner
sung by Kara Cover and Paul Jutte

12:50pm Take Me Out To The Ball Game
sung by Kara Cover and Paul Jutte

1:00pm the MAIN EVENT - 1869 Base Ball Game
Umpired by Elbert Tannreuther - (No gloves, 1869 gentleman's rules!)
Monroe Golden Lads coached by Tracy Shell

9:00pm (approx) Movie at the park - The Sandlot, rated G, Provided by the City of Monroe. The Consession stand will be open for late night munchies!

We will be having a team meeting tuesday at 6 pm at the community poark to go over the rules and answer any questions

I have an idea! Instead of that Sandlot movie, how about a bootleg G.I. Joe? That's about as American as you can get, so it fits the theme! Ha ha just joking. (Or am I? :!: )

Just a reminder that this event is TOMORROW!!!
11am (base ball game at 1pm, but come early and don't miss the kids races! - sign up on site)
Tell all your friends and family and see ya there!

(parking lot will be striped off today and bleachers are being moved, picnic tables put under the trees, etc) 8) Feel free to bring your blankets, umbrellas and lawn chairs!

This was a GREAT event!! I had a lot of fun participating and playing in the game. Was like I was 12 years old again playing ball with the neighborhood kids

It was a great event, wasn't it? I'd hoped for a larger crowd, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and the game was so much fun! You guys were really good and I hope you seriously consider putting a regular team together. I'll do anything I can to help make that happen. I'd love to see the Golden Lads every weekend. Hip Hip Huzzah!! :P
