Per the Monroe Observer January 2010 :
Monroe Jr High Seventh Grade ' Power of the Pen' Team (Submitted by Andrew Manning)
On Saturday, December 5th (2009) Monroe Jr High's seventh grade 'Power of the Pen team competed at the District Tournament at Goshen Middle School.
The event consisted of 12 teams representing Schools from four different counties in the Cincinnati area. Monroe's team was the smallest in number, only four writers compared to larger schools who entered six in each grades seven and eight, and the only school from Butler County.
Team size didn't stop Monroe's writers from turning in a school record setting performance! Team members (excluded from post) competed in three intense rounds of writing, each one 40 minutes long. By the end of the day three of the four girls had qualified for Regionals, and one was honored for placing 9th all-around. Three is the most Regional qualifiers Monroe has ever had in one grade!
The three (again, excluded from post) will represent Monroe at the Regional Tournament at Princeton Jr High on Saturday, March 13th.
Power of the Pen is a competitive creative writing program unique to the State of Ohio. This is Monroe's third year participating.
