Monroe City Council: Three seats...

Postby ursosju25 » Thu, 04 Jun 2009 22:32:40 GMT

Anna Hale, Steve Tannreuther and Mayor Routson will be up for reelection in the fall. Some folks have pointed out they want change? Please me specific in what change you are looking for? I see no issues with the current council and will vote Anna, Steve and Mayor Routson back in. For you folks that want change.

What problems do you see right now?
Well the fact is the city is out of fiscal emergency and is one of a very few cities in Ohio doing very well economically. I am sure Bob and Tracy can make this more evident.
We can easily point to the development of Vandecar, The Salzman Road development and the new mall.
Should we be angry at council for pursuing economic development?
Yes they had to issue 100% tax abatements but any town that is trying to grow must issue the 100% abatements to get a jump start. West Chester is a prime example. They issued these huge abatements left and right when they were starting to grow.

Now West Chester doesn’t have to worry about 100% abatements because business will come because they will flourish. Once the mall gets established and the Vandecar development gets established I feel the city will have no need to issue these 100% abatements.
Is it the Coke Plant?
The city is trying to grow economically and one the key development areas is the west and north end of Monroe. The City of Middletown wants to build a coke plant on top of Monroe! The City council realizes the lost economically will be ugly if this plant is built. The Monroe Crossing's development goes out the window. The city tax money goes down the drain for all those residents that live within 2 miles of the facility. The loss to the city could reach millions over the years! Do you see why the City is fighting this?

I urge you to attend meetings each of the council members LISTEN!!! They are a unique council that will listen to your concerns. On several occasions citizens have spoken with a concern and that night the problem was addressed and fixed. How many council this day in age do something like that?
I know for a fact that each of the three up for reelection are very good people.

Of the ones up for reelection I know Steve Tannreuther the best and on several occasions he has spoken about his concerns on how the city is spending money and makes logical decisions when it comes to the cities finances. Also when you call the city of Monroe you get a answering service to push numbers etc... He has spoken out on several occasions and said we need to get rid of that and have someone pick up the phone and address the citizen personally. This is just two examples on how Steve Tannreuther has taken the concerns of the people he represents first.

Anna is a sweetheart and is a good representive for those at Mount Pleasant and her enthusiasm and concerns for her people are obvious when she sits in her seat. She is very wise and her decisions are in the best interest of the people she represents.

Bob Routson is a very eloquent speaker and speaks with great substance. That has been very evident when asked why the council opposes SunCoke. He stands strong on what he believes and takes the cities interest to heart.

I am asking you to please attend a meeting or talk to your council before jumping to conclusions and saying we need change. I think we have one the best council in Ohio. But that is just me.

Feel free to ask questions...

Let me ask my questions again. Many of you that post on here posted you want change on another Monroe site. You failed to state what kind of change you want in your post. Here I am asking you the following questions. I just want answers to why people think we need change.

1. Why do you want change?

2. What has the city council of Monroe to bring on the idea of change?

Here is the humdinger question!
Some of you said you would vote for Sportsmom....

Why is she a good candidate for you?
How does she represent change?
Would you vote for her just because she is your friend?
Nothing againist Sportsmom but I don't know her to well and I want someone to tell me why she would be a good candidate for council.

At the moment I see no reason to unseat any members of a city council that seems to be functioning very well.

Any more thoughts on to what change you want to see? I have heard ramblings of the following and tell me what you think.

1. Mike Morris
2. Bob Bretland
3. Doc
4. Sportsmom?

While I like Mike Morris and respect those running I like what we have in place right now and will hold on to Mr. Tanreuther, Mrs. Hale and Mayor Routson. There good people that care about this city.

JMO, I think some of the names I have heard are just on a ego trip.

Rather loaded question based on hearsay Urso...

To assume thoughts on these individuals, one would have to know their intentions if indeed they are looking for a seat on the City Council.

Other than Mr. Bretland (whom I have had the pleasure to meet, albeit briefly) I know the other three you have mentioned. I know them personally/socially, and feel blessed to call them my Friends., however, I do not know their political standpoints and thus cannot comment on potential suitability.

I believe it would be preferable, to wait and see who steps forward and evaluate their position at that time, rather than throwing names around and asking for Character references :)

I am not certain where the rumor may have started, but I have no intention on running for Council and the only two that I believe that have pulled their petitions are Mr. Tannreuther and Mr. Routson.
I think I have learned to appreciate and treasure each day, because you don't know how many you're going to be given.

On a more serious note, I was glad to see Anna is running again. :D
