Howard, sorry for my thread jacking. it is an old habit.

As for this door to door situation. Please call Angela Wasson at the city building. If the city gets more information we can revoke the permit. Hope that helps

They have no permit. They said that.
They are pushing Gods word today.

This guy must be in great shape as he has been all over town!

When he came to my door, he asked the same question: are you the mother of the house? When I said there were no children living here, he said I could still help him by pointing out the neighbors with children. He had a notebook with a hand drawn map of the neighborhood with little "x's" on it.

I did call MPD, who said he had a legit permit but the map freaked me out. If I were a criminal, I'd prefer to hit the homes with no kids - the income is more likely spent on high-end electronics, not diapers or tricycles. Maybe Monroe needs a city wide "no door to door solicting" policy. I do like my Kirby vacuum, even if it does weigh a zillion pounds and is impossible on stairs yet that freebie car vac they gave me is awesome!

I do not know what he is selling but maybe that is part of the sales pitch. Ask to speak with the mother and play on her love of the children to buy what ever he is selling.

The city has this young mans information. I have seen the permit and it looks legit. He must follow certain rules and if he is not then he can have the permit revoked. If you have trouble with any door to door sales person call the Monroe police Department and try to get as much information on the person as you can.

Let me know if i can help

I know what they are selling - Southwestern is a company that provides books geared to children (hence the Mother request)

I love the ones 'spreading the word' ... We have a regular couple of Ladies who attempt to convert me  my claims of Buddhism appear to be less of a deterrent each visit. I must add that I was more offended by a Child who passed out literature on the School bus to class mates, than I could be by those who choose to 'save' me at my front door.

Seriously, I do not answer the door at every knock. I have a personal feeling of invasion when solicitors attempt to barter with me.. however, if a polite "No Thank you" does not work, I have no issue closing the door.

I must add and underscore my concern that any solicitors would approach children :x My Children have been taught to scream "You are not my Parent" while running away from whomever..... this is a measure taught due to today's society calling for protective and extreme measures....

For anyone who would deem it appropraite to approach a Child I say "shame on you!" and would in a hot heartbeat, call the PD. Gracious!!!! :x :x

I had a thought about this particular solicitor (Tall, blonde Guy) They work subdivisions and will tell you that they are unable to come back to your Home / Sub Division after that day (I believe this to be true)

I live in Applegate and he has already been here, if we list the areas that he has been, we would be able to determine which areas are likely to be visited next and possibly offer a heads up to any MC members in those locations.

NB: For the last few years, there are usually more than one representative who would come around.

Is there a way to see who has solicitation permits with the City? If records are public, could we request (formally) to view any potential solicitors within our Communities? Also, are religion based solicitors required to obtain permits (maybe an odd question, however, they are not 'selling' anything)

Excellent! Out of curiosity, were I offered the list of permits issued, would I be able to post said list, here? (Just dotting I's and crossing T's) :)
