Help this fawn!

Postby catnipandcarrots » Tue, 02 Jun 2009 15:37:17 GMT

A forum member alerted me to this story and it is heartbreaking to say the least. Please watch this story from WLWT and if you want to be a part of the solution to change a cruel law, please contact the Ohio Governors office.

I also called and wrote the Ohio Dept of Wildlife and contacted Second Chance Wildlife Rescue for their assisitance. First we have the story of the deputy who may have cruelly killed an injured goose and now a fawn left to die. Outrageous. We can do better.

The gun club I belong to has a reserve for injured animals. We don't hunt the property so we don't feed them and kill them. The animals are nursed back to health and then released. We have deer and wild turkey now in a large fenced in field.

That's all I'm asking for. I totally understand that we have a problem with too many deer and if the fawn were on state or park land, I'd feel a little different. But this deer is in a residential neighborhood and they asked for help and were told it is illegal to offer any ssistance. That is a stupid and cruel law.

This is part of why I implore we stop destroying all our green space. The animals have nowhere to go. If XWY Co. comes to Monroe and says they want to build a 500,000 sq ft warehouse and they will employ 500 people and pay taxes, ok, the animals reluctantly will have to move. But to build it with no tenant is pointless and forces those animals onto our roadways to possibly die a needless death. (not to mention we can be killed, too). It's a vicious circle of nature with no perfect solution but why perpetuate the problem? Not to mention, I'd rather look at grass or cows than another ugly warehouse. (Ok, my rant is over) :D

Thanks Phil!! I fowarded on the info to WLWT and they should get it to the folks caring for the deer. Let's keep our fingers crossed (and pens poised to the governors office) that this helps! :) Working together is what it is all about.

I have also just sent a letter to the governor...it'd be nice if a lot of folks would also. Now, not tomorrow. Tomorrow may be too late. This litte guy needs help NOW! Please click on the link provided in the original post and send a quick email letter to Governor Strickland now. Thank you, and the animals thank you too. We have to be their voice.

I have no idea if we helped but the fawn has been moved to "an undisclosed location." :D

Yes, please send a quick note to the governors office asking him to repeal the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources law prohibitting the rehabiliation of white tail deer. It became effective just this year.
